Margaret River isn’t exactly known for it’s great value. Many good wines at hefty prices, particularly Cabernet Sauvignon or Cabernet blends. Happily, there are bargains to be had, and we found with the 2018 Walsh and Sons Roi Cabernet Sauvignon. Classic Margaret River nose with blackcurrant, cigar box and geraniums. There is also a bloody/ferrous and sweet soy element that reminds me more of vineyards from the south west, but I love the combination of classic, yet different. The palate is concentrated and deep with the sweet soy and ferrous element, coupled with lavender and pastille black fruits. Absolutely awesome wine. Wineries like Cullen, Moss Wood, Vasse Felix and Leeuwin Estate get all the attention, but this really is something. Waters Wine Co.
