Lambert Wines Crudo Shiraz 2021
A striking, delicious rendition of this wine, similar in style to 2019 release, while still retaining the delicious freshness of red and black fruit complemented by some Indian spice from the mild growing season and cool nights. As is the norm, the wine was fermented wild (with 60% whole bunches) and raised in 5,000-litre old oak cask before being bottled without fining or filtration.
Domaine Naturaliste Rebus Cabernet 2018
Top 100 Wines of 2021 – Matured for 12 months in French oak (40% new). The bouquet is a fragrant mix of cassis and cedar/cigar box, the intense palate with a tapestry of flavours of cassis and savoury bay leaf. Yet it has the lightest of tannin touches encouraging a quick return to the glass. 97 points – James Halliday
A Rodda Cuvee de Chez 2018
We were talking to a Frenchman who happens to import wine (French mainly) and as the conversation swung to Bordeaux he exclaimed “Bordeaux. Boring!” We happen to not share his view, and it was lovely to taste A Rodda’s Bordeaux blend from Beechworth. An homage maybe, but this is definitely Australian. Soaring nose of plum, cherry, cassis, violets and pencil shavings. Voluminous palate, the fruit perfectly ripe. Melting tannins that are fine, but with a silken grip that could only be Australian. Impeccable wine.
Garagiste Le Stagiaire Pinot Noir 2021
One of the best value Mornington Peninsula pinot noirs, the 2021 might just be the best yet. Black and red fruits, spice, a dollop of oak and geraniums. Medium bodied, silky and vibrant with loads of fruit and soft persistent tannins.
Dormilona Malbec 2021
Juicy Malbec is back! This was picked of a stunning little patch of vineyard in the heart of Willyabrup. The fruit was de-stemmed and sent to open fermenters for 10 days and then pressed off to seasoned French barrels. Simply racked to bottle on sunny fruit day.
La Petite Vanguard Grenache 2021
The 2021 is generous, fluid and vibrant. Roses, pomegranate, cranberry and strawberry mingle with clove and aniseed. Pure and juicy palate, so fresh and bright, but deep and detailed too. Red fruits, and some dark plum and kirsch with flecks of vanilla bean. One of the best bistro reds around, that will go with almost anything.
