Quealy Tussie Mussie Late Harvest Pinot Gris 2019

$30.00

Quealy’s Late Harvest Gris is superb! Layered, sweet yet tangy with ripe, bosc pear, leatherbox honey and peach jam all featuring clearly on both the nose and palate. The finish is lingering and perfumed and it’s here that the marmalade kiss of botrytis kicks in.

The Alsatian influence looms large at Quealy, not least the in the presence of vineyard manager Lucas Blanck, son of Kaysersberg vigneron Frédéric Blanck. Modelled on the great vendanges tardives of Blanck’s homeland, Quealy’s Late Harvest Pinot Gris is selected from a portion of Tussie Mussie A Block, a site carefully evaluated as a ‘sweet spot’ (#boom) for the late entrance of botrytis (not every year though, it was last made in 2017).

All baked pear, cinnamon spice. red berries, caramel (light on) and toffee. It’s sticky but not over the top. Gummy texture, has some glide too, finishes rich but with enough acidity to give a kiss of freshness and lift. A very generous style here, so opulent, but done so well. 93 Points – Mike Bennie, The Winefront
