Chateau du Cedre
Château du Cèdre is widely regarded as the leading estate in Cahors, South West France. The principal grape varieties of this region are Malbec (known locally as Cot) and Tannat. These produce wonderfully dense and tannic wines. Perfumed and vivacious with mulberry aromas and flavours when young, given time to evolve the wines develop wonderful complexity.
We first visited this producer in 2005 and were struck by the astonishing quality and value of the wines. On the same trip we had spent a significant period of time in Bordeaux and we couldn’t remember having any wine there that could match the Cedre’s rich, structured exuberance. Cahors has a long history of producing wines of great depth and character with superb ageing potential. These are some of the best value wines of France.
